Benjamin McKinley Colder
was born a little North of Nome Alaska. While his father was working at
the weather station in Nome. Little is known about Ben's mother .....
except
this statement made by her, which appeared in the Nome
News...(Quote)..."I didn't want to weather the terrible snowstorms alone
here in Nome, so I married the local weatherman hoping that he would
tell me what was going to happen next???... But I certainly never
expected the 'next thing to be BEN COLDER!"
Bens musical career began
quite early when locals noticed him making wonderful tunes by clanking
icicles hanging on the neighbors rooftops. Later as he grew and
perfected his "icicle-playing" abilities, he played many rooftop
around Alaska... and a few igloos too!
Ben Vividly recalls the
time he decided to become a full fledged member of the "ALASKAN CLUB",
which has three rigid qualifications of all potential members! First you
must drink one quart of straight whiskey gulp by gulp without
stopping... then go out and shoot a big ole polar bear... and lastly rub
noses with an Eskimo squaw. Well .. it seems that when Ben drank down
that quart of straight whiskey, he got a mite confused. You see after he
drank down his quart of booze( so his friends tell the story) ole Ben
returned from the bear hunt bleeding profusely... he was totally eat up
with scratches and cuts over mite near his whole body... breathlessly
Ben asked ...
"NOW WHERE'S THAT ESKIMO
SQUAW I'M SUPPOSED TO SHOOT?'
Ben sure must have been
confused... yes sir! You know ... that same type of confusion is quite
noticeable in all of Ben's recordings....But on the other hand its the
confusion that has contributed to Ben's great success and has afforded
him the MANY GOLD RECORDS! ... Records such as "Hello Walls#2" ... "I
Walk The Line #2...and #3"... "Still #2"... "Detroit City #2" ...the
smash hit ... "Almost Persuaded #2" and the list goes on!
Now... is it any wonder people refer to BEN
COLDER as the 'Number Two' Artist recording today? In our humble
opinion... BEN IS SECOND BEST!
